Auspicious Beginnings: A Photo Exhibition
February 1 to 28, 2026
The Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, or ngien/nìhn/nián, marks the turning of winter into spring in the agricultural cycle. For various diasporic Chinese communities, cultural grounding often means creating and returning to rituals, such as the annual Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival parade, Hakka kirin and Cantonese lion dance troupes blessing storefronts, and the revisiting of family, kinship, and home. Moving between public sharing and private remembrance, this photo collection weaves together archival and personal images across places, generations, spirits, and ordinary lives, tracing the passage of time and the enduring continuity of culture in creating, representing, and materializing auspicious beginnings.
