A Hakka-Canadian filmmaker traces her family’s past in Kolkata, India and confronts the impact of migration on identity and family, exploring the space between generations where culture hangs in the balance.
Clan of the Painted Lady follows Jennifer's personal journey from China to Canada to India, to discover why we move and how we keep our heritage alive whilst adapting to new places. With an ensemble of Hakka voices from around the world, the film explores how culture is transmitted from one generation to another, and the challenge of defining identity within a diaspora.

譚公廟 Tam Kung Temple
Tam Kung Temple (est.1876) is the oldest Chinese temple in Canada, located in Victoria Chinatown. It is under the guardianship of the Yen Wo Society, a non-profit organization established by the Chinese Hakka community in 1905. It is temporarily closed to visitors due to a fire.

《客家女聲》（2023）是由彭雅玲（臺灣) 和Suzon Fuks（澳洲）合作拍攝的發人深思的影像詩篇,影片中收錄了六位臺灣客家女詩人的詩作,詩中以客語傳達獨特的傳統以及普世的主題,同時邀請全球各地知名的女演員跨刀配音,從家族故事到劇場展演再到山川田野層層地與臺灣拍攝的影像相互輝映,謹以此片獻給為公平正義奮鬥的婦人與女孩。
VOICES OF HAKKA WOMEN (2023) is an evocative video poem by Ya-Ling Peng (Taiwan) and Suzon Fuks (Australia), featuring the original poetry of 6 Taiwanese-Hakka women. Layered with imagery shot in Taiwan, it evokes the not-so-old custom of giving away daughters, “adopted” by other families and often used for hard house and farm work. It is dedicated to women and girls fighting for fairness and justice.

Professor Liu Zinfat is a renowned linguist, who knows many languages such as Putonghua, Cantonese, English, German and Japanese. He has spent most of his time studying Hakka. As a Hakka, he loves the language and its culture. Knowing that Hakka is endangered, he helps to produce videos about the language, Hakka culture and anything that is interesting to you.
